On almost any remote stretch of Cape Cod beach, you'll find at least one sea gull standing sentinel, its only company often a jaged piece of weathered driftwood. The seasgull will usually stand virtually frozen still, staring toward the water that is, until you remove something to eat from your beach bag, at which all decorum ceases and the creature turns to pester you until either fed or shooed away.
